Thanks to both NVIT and OK College for teaming up to ensure that our feast will once again feature the fare of Chef Andrew George Jr., and special thanks to ITA BC for sponsoring the feast.
This feast will feature traditional fare in a “family feast” setting.
Red Seal Chef George is a member of the Wet’suwet’en Nation in central British Columbia, and author of two cookbooks Modern Traditional Feasts and Feasts for all Seasons. Chef George will be assisted by a number of the Indigenous professional cook students from NVIT and OK College.
One of many delicious plates served at last years feast.
In 1992 Chef George participa ted in the first all Indigenous team at the Culinary Olympics in Frankfurt, Germany. There were 13,000 chefs from 53 countries and the First Nations team won seven gold, two silver and two bronze medals at this prestigious event. He had his own restaurant for five years and also cooked at the Four Host First Nations pavilion at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
“First Nations and Aboriginal people…have a very strong connection to the land, they have a very strong desire to protect the land, but also t o move forward in a modern form [with] how we practice our traditions, and that includes our food because food is a very integral part of our feast halls, our potlatch halls….” (Chef Andrew George)
